The 1926-27 year was one of the first years for the new Golden Gate Chapter of the American Society for Steel Treating. This chapter, formed in May 14, 1924, would later become the Golden Gate Chapter of ASM International.
Below is a summary of your chapter's activities for 1926-27. The information on this page was taken from a reprint of the 1926-1927 yearbook which was reprinted for attendees of the 75th anniversary meeting of the Golden Gate Chapter of ASM International.

Meetings were held on the second Wednesday of each month, at 8 pm, following dinner which started at 6:30 pm. The locations of the meetings every other month were at the Engineer's Club on Post Street in San Francisco and on alternating months meetings were held in the Eat Bay District, usually somewhere in Oakland or Berkeley. There were plans for an early 1927 meeting at Stanford which would give the opportunity to inspect several of the Engineering laboratories.

"Plans have been made to give an elementary course in "Steel and Its Heat Treatment" again this season. This course will probably be given under the auspices of the Oakland Broad of Education and is scheduled to commence early in 1927. It will be patterned along the lines of the course given in the past season."
"In addition every effort is being made to institute an advance course which will be of interest to those who, having taken last year's course, wish to go more deeply into the subject of Steel Treatment from both the practical and theoretical standpoints."

The 1926-27 yearbook listed the names and affiliations for all of its members, sorted by name and by affiliation. The listing includes 130 names and 71 companies, not bad for such a new organization. Of these companies the top eight (three or more members) in terms of membership were:
It may be interesting to note that only 4 members were employees of universities (2 at Stanford, 2 at the University of California), compared to the membership in 1999 when the University of California (UC Berkeley, UC Davis, LLNL, LBL) represented the largest single employer of our members with 57 of the total 533 members. Also, only one was from a governmental agency, the US Army, and only one from a laboratory (Shaw Laboratory).
