San Francisco Section of NACE International

Hello, Welcome. This is Raúl B. Rebak the current (2005) chair of the San Francisco Bay Area Section of NACE International, The Corrosion Society.

NACE International started as the National Association of Corrosion Engineers in Houston in 1943. At this time, eleven Corrosion Engineers working in the pipeline industry decided to join efforts to fight corrosion. With more than 60 years of experience in developing corrosion prevention and control standards, NACE International has become the largest organization in the world committed to the study of corrosion. NACE functions through technical committees, which write standards and organized technical exchange meetings. NACE now has over 80 sections worldwide.

NACE International has an Annual Conference and Exposition, which meets generally in the month of March. Among other attractions, the international meeting offers numerous technical symposia grouped by areas in the corrosion field. The more than 700 papers presented each year cover subjects such as cathodic protection, marine corrosion, corrosion in nuclear power plants, gaseous corrosion, etc. A large exposition is held in parallel to the technical symposia where suppliers and users of corrosion goods meet.

NACE International publishes two monthly journals, “Corrosion” and “Materials Performance.” NACE edits books, offers technical courses and co-sponsors many other meetings worldwide.

The “San Francisco Bay Area Section” of NACE International has approximately 300 members distributed in counties surrounding the San Francisco Bay and other areas such as Sacramento and Reno. We meet monthly, usually the second Tuesday of each month, for a technical presentation and other exchange of information. We carry on technical tours of industrial plants and other specialized attractions. Approximately every two years we have an Education Week, where we offer several specialized courses and technical training.

If you are interested in Corrosion in the San Francisco Bay Area, please contact our NACE section. If you want us to offer a certain course, please contact us. If you want to be a speaker in our monthly technical meetings please contact us.

Northern California Section of the Society for Advanced Materials Process Engineering

The Society for the Advancement of Material and Process Engineering (SAMPE), an international professional member society, provides information on new materials and processing technology either via technical forums, journal publications, or books in which professionals in this field can exchange ideas and air their views. As the only technical society encompassing all fields of endeavor in materials and processes, SAMPE provides a unique and valuable forum for scientists, engineers, and academicians.

The Northern California Chapter sponsors monthly technical meetings or plant tours starting in September and running through May. For over 25 years NorCal SAMPE has sponsored a all-day Composites Workshop in January. The NorCal SAMPE chapter in cooperation with the Santa Clara Valley Chapter of ASM International also awards annual scholarships to students at Stanford University and San Jose State University and provides judging and awards to materials projects at the Santa Clara Science Fair.
